  1. Remove the stems and snap the green beans into 2 or 3 smaller pieces.
  2. Rinse the green beans in a colander.
  3. Add the green beans to a large pot with the remaining ingredients. Fill the pot with water until the green beans are fully submerged by an inch.
  4. Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer. Cook for 60 minutes or until the beans are soft, stirring occasionally.
  5. Serve immediately or reheat later. Salt to taste.
